Privacy Policy
- Stipule does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.
- Everything you write stays on your device — always.
- No account is required and none is created.
- No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting is sent anywhere.
- No third-party SDKs, trackers, or advertising frameworks are included.
- No internet connection is required to use Stipule.
Stipule ("the Application") is a private, offline notepad application for Windows, developed and published by MenVar ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the Application handles and how it is treated.
Stipule was built on a single principle: your words belong to you. The Application is designed to function entirely on your local device without any network communication, account registration, or data collection of any kind.
We collect no information whatsoever. Stipule does not collect, access, process, store remotely, or transmit any of the following:
- Personal identification information (name, email address, etc.)
- The content of your notes, documents, or any text you write
- Usage data, feature interactions, or behavioural analytics
- Device identifiers, IP addresses, or location data
- Crash reports or diagnostic logs sent to external servers
- Clipboard contents beyond what you explicitly paste into a note
All data created within Stipule — including notes, settings, and preferences — is stored exclusively in your local application data folder (%APPDATA%\Stipule) and is never transmitted off your device.
Stipule stores the following data locally on your device to provide its functionality:
- Notes and documents — the text content you create within the app
- Application settings — your preferences such as font, theme, and layout
- Session state — which notes were open, tab order, and window position
- Workspaces — named groupings of notes you have saved
This data is stored in standard operating system locations on your own machine. You have full control over it at all times and may delete it by uninstalling the application or manually removing the application data folder.
Stipule does not require an internet connection and does not initiate any network requests during normal operation. The Application contains no functionality that communicates with external servers, APIs, or cloud services.
The only network activity that may occur is when you explicitly use a Help menu link (such as "Stipule Home Page" or "Report a Bug"), which opens your default web browser to navigate to stipule.app. This action is initiated entirely by you and subject to your browser's own privacy settings.
Stipule does not integrate any third-party analytics platforms, advertising networks, social media SDKs, or data brokers. No user data is shared with, sold to, or accessible by any third party.
Stipule is built using open-source technologies (Electron, React, TypeScript). These frameworks operate entirely locally and do not transmit data independently.
Stipule is distributed through the Microsoft Store. When you download or purchase the Application through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft may collect information about that transaction in accordance with their own privacy policy. MenVar does not receive any personally identifiable information from Microsoft as part of this process beyond aggregate download statistics.
For details on Microsoft's data practices, please refer to the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Because Stipule collects no personal information from any user, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). There is no mechanism within the Application to collect such information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Application after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
Given the nature of Stipule — a fully offline, no-account application — substantive changes to our data practices are unlikely. Any future version that introduces network features or data collection will be clearly disclosed before release.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or the Application's data practices, please contact us:
